6.5 Managing i2b2 Users
Everyone who uses the i2b2 has to be setup as an i2b2 user in the i2b2 Administration Module. The management of these users is done under Manage Users and the following functions for managing your users are available.
- Add, edit, and delete user(s)
- Add, edit, and delete user parameter(s)
The steps on how to use these features are defined in one of the sections that follow.
6.5.1 User Data
The User Data page captures the following general information about a user.

6.5.1.1 Add a New User
Steps to Add a New User
The following steps outline the process of adding a new user in the i2b2 Administration Module.
Assumption: The following steps assume you are already logged into the i2b2 Administration Module. If you do not know how to login please see the chapter titled i2b2 Administration Module Install.
- In the Navigation panel, click on Manage Users.
- The Manage Users page will display on the right.
- In the Manage Users page click on Add New User. The page to add users will display.
- Enter the information for the user you are adding.

If Is Admin is set to Yes then the user will be able to log into i2b2 Admin Module. This means they are able to access information for ALL users, projects and cells. |
- Click on Save to save the user.
- The user will be added to the list of users on the Manage Users page.
- In the Navigation panel click on Manage Users to refresh the hierarchical tree and display the new user.
6.5.1.2 Edit Existing User

The following steps outline the process of editing a user in the i2b2 Administration Module.
Assumption: The following steps assume you are already logged into the i2b2 Administration Module. If you do not know how to login please see the chapter titled i2b2 Administration Module Install.
- In the Navigation panel, click on Manage Users.
- The Manage Users page will display on the right.
- In the Navigation panel, click on the name of the user you want to edit.
- The Edit User page will display on the right.
- Make the changes to the user and click on Save to save the changes.
6.5.1.3 Delete an i2b2 User

The following steps outline the process of deleting a user in the i2b2 Administration Module.
Assumption: The following steps assume you are already logged into the i2b2 Administration Module. If you do not know how to login please see the chapter titled i2b2 Administration Module Install.
- In the Navigation panel, click on Manage Users.
- The Manage Users page will display on the right.
- In the Navigation panel, click on the name of the user you want to delete.
- The Edit User page will display on the right.
- Click on Delete to remove the user.
- The user will be removed from the list of users on the Manage Users page.
- In the Navigation panel click on Manage Users to refresh the hierarchical tree and verify the user no longer appears in the list.
6.5.2 User Parameters
Parameters entered on a user are known as User Parameters and are specific to the user. The user parameter only affects the user in which it is entered on; it does not affect other users and it is not specific to any one project.
6.5.2.1 Add User Parameters

The following steps outline the process of adding a parameter to a user from within the i2b2 Administration Module.
Assumption: The following steps assume you are already logged into the i2b2 Administration Module. If you do not know how to login please see the chapter titled i2b2 Administration Module Install.
- In the Navigation panel, expand Manage Users to display a list of users.
- Expand the name of the user you want to add a parameter to.
- Click on the Params option that displays under the user's name.
- The Parameters List page will display on the right side of the window pane.
- Click on Add New Parameter. The Enter Parameter page will display.
- Enter the name of the parameter, the value for the parameter and the data type for the parameter.
- Click on Save to save the new parameter.
- The Parameters List page will display with the new parameter.
- In the Navigation panel click on Params to refresh the hierarchical tree and display the new parameter.
6.5.2.2 Edit User Parameters

The following steps outline the process of editing a user parameter in the i2b2 Administration Module.

- In the Navigation panel, expand Manage Users to display a list of users.
- Expand the name of the user that has the parameter you want to edit.
- Expand the Params option that displays under the user's name.
- A list of parameters entered for that user will display under their name in the Navigation panel.
- In the Navigation panel, click on the name of the parameter you want to edit.
- The Edit Parameter page will display on the right.
- Make the changes to the parameter and click on Save to save the changes.
6.5.2.3 Delete User Parameters

The following steps outline the process of deleting a user parameter in the i2b2 Administration Module.

- In the Navigation panel, expand Manage Users to display a list of users.
- Expand the name of the user that has the parameter you want to delete.
- Expand the Params option that displays under the user's name.
- A list of parameters entered for that user will display under their name in the Navigation panel.
- In the Navigation panel, click on the name of the parameter you want to delete.
- The Edit Parameter page will display on the right.
- Click on Delete to remove the parameter.
- The parameter will be removed from the list of parameters on the Parameters List page.
- In the Navigation panel click on Params to refresh the hierarchical tree and verify the parameter no longer appears in the list.
